Northrop Grumman is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer/Systems Engineer. This position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems sector in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Product Support Organization supporting our Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) group to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals within our Supportability Engineering team.

The selected candidate must have excellent inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills as well as proven leadership skills to lead teams of engineers, logisticians, and buyers in pursuing recommendations for resolution of DMSMS challenges. The candidate will focus on systems affected by obsolescence issues and help coordinate solutions to minimize or prevent impacts on production or sustainment contracts.  As well as perform System and Component level Lifecycle Management Engineering activities. Other duties include:

  • Gather, collect, record, track, and verify data from multiple sources and maintain DMSMS records

  • Conduct system level analysis to determine the impact of an obsolescence issue and collaborate with Engineers and Suppliers to analyze and determine solution options.

  • Assist Engineering groups with the selection and validation of replacement components

  • Facilitate DMSMS resolution activities including scheduling meetings, briefings, and discussion topics, preparation of agendas and meeting minutes. Participate in working groups and ad hoc committees/meetings

  • Analyze and predict production and sustainment requirements to construct strategic DMSMS roadmaps for end-of-life subsystems and components

  • Engage with senior management and government customers to ensure coordination and integration of DMSMS resolution activities

  • Work with suppliers to ensure DMSMS issues are resolved at the lowest cost while maintaining high quality and reliability

  • Assist in developing program metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of DMSMS activities

  • Collaborate with Program Managers and Contracts department in the development of Statements of Work (SOW) and Basis of Estimates (BOE) for DMSMS task scope definitions

This requisition may be filled with either an Associate Systems Engineer (T01) or Systems Engineer (T02)

Basic Qualifications for an Associate Systems Engineer (T01)

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL the following criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.

  • Solid written and oral communications as well as presentation skills to communicate work products, especially their significance and relevancy, in a clear, detailed manner.

  • Familiarity with Obsolescence Management concepts and processes

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite). Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

Basic Qualifications for a Systems Engineer (T02)

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the criteria below. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) degree.

  • Solid written and oral communications as well as presentation skills to communicate work products, especially their significance and relevancy, in a clear, detailed manner.

  • Familiarity with Obsolescence Management concepts and processes

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).  Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.

  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).

  • Ability to understand lower-level engineering issues and their impact at higher system levels

  • Familiarity with Project Management processes and procedures

  • Experience using Excel or comparable tools to perform data sorting and statistical analysis with linear regression and trending with visual representations of data and results

  • Knowledge of configuration management of complex assemblies and experience with electrical and mechanical component evaluation and selection

  • Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical or systems engineering

Pay Range

  • Associate Systems Engineer: $76,200.00 - $114,400.00

  • Systems Engineer: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
