The Manager, Navigation Systems Engineering is responsible for the life cycle management of navigation systems technology and includes leading the team around complex planning, design, implementation, and life cycle support activities. Key accountabilities
- Develop and support Policies, Procedures and Standards to ensure that the various in-service systems are maintained and enhanced to meet all safety, operational, and efficiency requirements
- Prioritize defects, changes, enhancements, and system procurement/development through coordination with stakeholders
- Ensure systems safety and integrity by directing the development of test procedures and testing, and by certifying system integrity
- Formulate, analyze, and evaluate proposals, plans and solutions to replace, enhance, and maintain the system up to date
- Manage budgets for staff and programs, approving expenditures and maintains accurate forecasts of capacity and costs
- Lead represented and contracted staff who are responsible for completing the individual tasks comprising project deliverables and support activities
- Handles information that may be classified as confidential and/or sensitive in nature, such as vendor relationships, labor relations matters, safety-critical issues, corporate proprietary material, and valuable knowledge assets.
What you bring:
- University degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or related or a combination of equivalent education such as 3-year Electronics Technology or Computer Science diploma and related experience
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience at NAV CANADA or in the ANS sector
- Minimum of 2 years of experience related to people leadership in an engineering technical team environment
- Experience in procurement, development, testing, implementation and life cycle support of complex ANS systems is an asset
- Knowledge of the development, testing, implementation, and life cycle support of complex safety critical ANS systems, including radio and antenna systems
- Knowledge of engineering management techniques and processes including agile methodologies, business case analysis, project management, financial planning, procurement, and human resources
- Knowledge of NAV CANADA&39;s business and operational mandate, strategic objectives, accountability framework, corporate values, and principles, including how these relate to project objectives
- Current knowledge of evolving industry trends, computing and communications technology, and products and services
- Knowledge of procurement policies, tendering processes, proposal evaluations, and contracting mechanisms

- Ability to define and manage priorities, and work under short timeframes with intense pressure to deliver
- Ability to make time-critical decisions with limited information
- Ability to translate high level goals into comprehensive and achievable strategies and action plans
- Strong leadership skills to build teams and leverage capabilities of diverse groups of individuals
- Shows pro-active decision making and reporting of concerns for both technical and personnel issues
- Fully represents NAV CANADA when interacting with stakeholders and key vendors of ANS equipment/services
Working Conditions:
- This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site.
- Occasional travel required, domestic and international
