Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking an individual to join our Quality & Mission Assurance (Q&MA) organization in Buffalo, NY as a Principal Engineer Quality.  We are looking for an individual who:

What youll get to do:

  • Review and capture customer contractual quality-related requirements and ensure appropriate flow-down of non-standard requirements to the appropriate functions (e.g., Manufacturing, Inspection, etc.).
  • Plan and oversee inspection and testing of assigned project/program products to verify conformance with requirements.
  • Application of internal requirements – e.g., certifications, standards, documented processes and procedures, etc.
  • Perform both improvised and planned activities in accordance with (IAW) documented processes and procedures to:
    • Verify process compliance to internal and external requirements.
    • Identify and mitigate compliance risks.
    • Support collaborative review and approval of engineering work products and changes to ensure technical standards, scientific principles, theories and concepts are applied.
    • Verify product compliance to internal and external requirements.
  • Support our non-conforming material control process throughout Manufacturing, Test, and Integration:
    • Documenting non-conforming material.
    • Oversee and facilitate closure of non-conforming material records on assigned project/program.
    • Review and approval of dispositioning nonconforming material through our Material Review Board (MRB) process.
    • Processing of scrap non-conforming material.
  • Collaborate with our Process Assurance (PA) team to:
    • Audit our Quality Management System (QMS) and supporting processes for compliance and Corrective Action (CA).
    • Support our Corrective Action Board (CAB) through owning, supporting, and facilitating CAs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to own or support continuous improvement projects that will:
    • Ensure products and processes more consistently and repeatedly meet compliance requirements.
    • Reduce waste and improve overall operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate must be able to pay attention to detail, communicate clearly and concisely, interpret engineering drawings, and be proficient in MS Applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, or STEM discipline with 5 years of experience in a Quality Engineering role; 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree in a Quality Engineering role.
  • Quality Management System (QMS) experience.
  • Experience with auditing processes and procedures.
  • Experience supporting team members in reviewing and approving processes for engineering designs and changes.
  • Experience using problem-solving techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in STEM discipline.
  • Government contract requirements, e.g., FARS and DFARS experience.
  • Proposal or quotation process experience.
  • Experience in operating in and maintaining an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 QMS.
  • Institute for Printed Circuits (IPC) Standards IPC 610 and J-STD 001
  • SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system – preferably S/4 version experience.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience.
  • Root Cause Analysis and Corrective/Preventative Actions experience.
  • Experience with MS Applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
Salary Range: $91,200 - $136,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
