We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Supply Chain and Development Engineer to play a key leadership role in driving supplier performance, quality assurance, and cross-functional collaboration across our Connected Aviation ecosystem. This position demands a strategic thinker with expertise in supplier development, quality systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Youll be instrumental in partnering with engineering, sourcing, and cybersecurity teams to assess, qualify, and onboard suppliers—from hardware and software providers to cloud and technical service vendors. You will champion risk mitigation, compliance, and innovation, ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our supply chain in alignment with rigorous industry standards and business goals.

What You Will Do: 

  • Mentorship – Able to train, mentor, and coach at multi-professional levels to improve performance gaps.
  • Lead Supplier performance by analyzing performance data and identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives and promote standardization of supplier quality processes across Connected Aviation. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams in pursuit of performance improvements aligned to department and organizational goals, a leadership advocate, and partner. 
  • Partner with supply chain and engineering teams to assess, qualify, and onboard suppliers (e.g., hardware providers, software providers, cloud service vendors, technical consultants). 
  • Preventing/minimizing business impact from supplied material defects and service interruptions; supplier quality risk mitigation. 
  • Monitor supplier performance, including SLA adherence, incident trends, and compliance with cybersecurity and information assurance requirements. 
  • Establish and maintain supplier quality standards, performance KPIs, and audit programs. 
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier-related issues, ensuring sustainable improvements. 
  • Support supplier selection and sourcing decisions through quality input and risk assessments. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align supplier quality goals with contract deliverables, security standards (e.g., ISO 27001), and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO9001/90003 or AS9100/9115 for software quality).
  • Onsite supplier engagements, including performance reviews and process improvements. 
  • Certified Auditor able to mentor, train, and facilitate/lead Supplier Quality Management System and Quality Flow-down Audits. 
  • Develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation. 
  • Provide project management guidance and support to projects and processes. 
  • Exercise independent judgment methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. 
  • Be an active member of different technology teams representing the Supply Chain Quality organization. 
  • Leadership within supplier performance organizational strategies, development/enhancement of Supplier Quality standard work, and Customer communications. 
  • Up to 50 domestic and global travel may be required.  

Qualifications You Must Have: 

  • 3+ years of experience within a Quality role.
  • Experience with ISO9000, or similar, Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Strong experience in conducting root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer: 

  • Familiarity with service-level agreements, software lifecycle quality, and service supplier management.
  • Experience with continuous improvement, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, 9S, etc.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity and data protection requirements in a supplier context.
  • Certification in quality (e.g., ASQ CQE, CQA) or auditing is a plus.
  • Strong background in Supply Chain Performance Management.
  • Project Management and Change Management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - able to influence others at all levels within an organization.
  • Strong presentation skills - able to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Supply Chain or Supplier Quality type roles.
  • SAP or similar ERP system experience.

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 224,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
