Overview of role:
The Senior Cloud (Azure) Engineer will play an integral part in the design, development, and operation of the WestJet cloud presence. This role will be responsible for the planning, operational process development, implementation, and migration support to assist in WestJet’s journey to the cloud. Working within the rest of the Public Cloud Team and in conjunction with support and governance teams within WestJet and external partners, the Senior Cloud (Azure) Engineer will meet with other Application support groups to migrate, support, and ensure the continual improvement of the WestJet cloud environment.
Key deliverables / responsibilities include:

Act as a trusted subject-matter expert on Azure, with particular focus on the intersection of platform engineering and DevOps, and championing the enterprise management and governance of our public cloud environment.

Build out and expand infrastructure as code as it pertains to our cloud environments: Lead automation and tooling to ensure consistency and scalability.

Create runbooks / operational procedures for the upkeep of the cloud infrastructure and to support operations.

Collaborate with application and product teams to replace / rebuild / revise / refactor and if required, re-host applications from our datacenter to the cloud.

Act as an evangelist, when meeting with other groups in authoring the story of WestJet’scloud maturity, and being a reliable advocate for best practices; Represent the Cloud Operations team to other technical and non-technical teams including business leadership.

Provide support and mentorship to other members of the Cloud Operations team as well as members of WestJet regarding best practices, solutioning, and the art of the possible within the cloud.
Experience and qualifications:

5-7 years Cloud experience, primarily on Azure, and 7-10 years IT Operations experience

Expert understanding of Azure network design, configuration, and management as well as the inter-operability of cloud networking with service providers, 3rd party integrations, and a distributed enterprise WAN.

Excellent knowledge of cyber and information security concepts and practices in public cloud environments.

Advanced understanding and proven experience with leveraging the Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure in a complete cloud journey.

Expert knowledge of DevOps, agile development, and cloud operations support processes.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation using any of the following: Terraform/Python/Cloud Formation/Ansible/PowerShell, etc.

Experience with collaborating with and leveraging managed services providers in the provisioning and operation of cloud environments.

Experience delivering automated workflows via ServiceNow would be considered an asset.

Experience with other cloud providers (AWS, GCP, etc..), business operations in multi-cloud environments, and integrating with SaaS providers would be an asset, but not required

Strong presentation and communication skills.

Must be detail-oriented, self-starting and possess the ability to multi-task and meet unexpected deadlines in a demanding environment, while collaborating with teammates and leadership in prioritization.

Demonstrate sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
