HybridCollins Aerospace and the Global Technical Solutions (GTS) team have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for the development and sustainment of software programs, for solving user inquiries that arise during day-to-day operations and for documenting system changes.
This position requires an individual, like you, who can research, design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain application software while applying a systematic and disciplined quantifiable approach to the construction, analysis, or management of software.
This position will be at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.
This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.
What YOU will do:
- Develop/modify programs based on functional specification, and investigate and understand new technologies, conduct unit-tests, code review and performance monitoring.
- Design and build changes, extensions, and enhancements to existing application programs and reports.
- Design and develop integrations between applications using application programming interfaces.
- Provide patches and upgrades to existing systems.
- Perform debugging and integration of software components as part of the solution delivery lifecycle process.
- Support data migration, data conversion, data loading, and performance improvement of information.
- Prepare operating instructions and compile documentation of program development.
- Proactively identify and communicate technical software issues and help resolve them.
- Participate in cross-functional team efforts for the definition, integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity.
- Review software defects, business trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, and techniques that drive continuous improvements in software development processes.
- Analyze complex business problems to be solved with automated systems and provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating, and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements.
- Work with users to support business applications and investigating operational problems/system requirements.
- Provide exploratory/discovery consulting services to internal customers.
- Contribute to software engineering requirements capture and analysis in area of domain expertise. Able to identify cross-functional deficiencies in requirements.
- Translate business needs into technical requirements.
- Estimate project resource requirements for multi-developer projects.
- Develop engineering estimates for Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals.

Qualifications you must have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- XML, XSLT, XSD, FOSI/DTD development experience.
- Experience in using networks, servlet containers, web servers, and HTTP protocols.
- Substantial experience as a web service administrator.
- Visual Basic programming experience.
- MS Access Database development experience.
- Structured Query Language (SQL) experience.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting program code.
- Java or other object-oriented programming experience.
- Experience with modern software development best practices and configuration management tools.
- Knowledge of development programs like, Arbortext Editor, Adobe FrameMaker.
- Familiar with JIRA and Agile frameworks.
