• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using flux-cored arc.
• Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
• Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
• Gouge metals, using the air-arc gouging process.
• Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as they arise.

• Be able to pass the ABS test in FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding).
• Weld test is a flux core test using .052 wire vertical and horizontal.
• Must have 4 years' experience with Stick/Flux/MIG welding.
• Knowledge of materials and methods involved in construction.
• Basic blueprint reading.
• All welders need to have their basic hand tools - Shield, wire brush, chipping, pea grinder, wrenches, screwdriver, etc.
• A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
• Must have the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs
• Accredited HSD/GED Preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

• Prior shipyard experience is a plus
• Fabrication experience in a Military environment is a plus
