Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Cargo Operations, the Cargo Agent/Receiver is responsible to receive, verify and inspect freight shipments from the general public and corporate customers. Prepare required documentation for the shipment of general cargo and dangerous goods.Personal CharacteristicsHighly flexible, with the ability to respond quickly in a dynamic environmentProfessional and respectful, with a positive work attitudeTimely with a high level of commitment to on-time performance is essentialMotivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a teamEffective verbal and written communication skillsHigh level of respect, understanding and regard for First Nations communitiesKey Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesAssist customers with bringing freight into the warehouseWeigh and count freight shipmentsWrite up the air waybills and review the air waybill/shipping declaration with the customerProcess paymentsFill in air waybills and corresponding paperworkScreen all cargo tendered to them for transport for the presence of prohibited items such as undeclared Dangerous Goods, illegal contraband and sabotage devicesDocument all cargo screening conducted in accordance with document retention proceduresEffectively resolve customer complaints by identifying possible options and/or solutionsEnsure that all Dangerous Goods are declared; review the Dangerous Goods checklist with the customer and have the customer sign the checklistEnsure that the shipper is providing all necessary paperwork needed according to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods ActEnsure that charter freight is weighed and labelled properly and that an email is sent to Charters and Cargo with the AWB number and weightProvide communication to Charter Connexions regarding charter customer freightLabel freight as necessaryShrink-wrap loose pallets as necessaryStore freight in the appropriate location in the warehouse, by destination, fridge, freezer, DG or medical coolerQuote customers rates for shipments of freightMonitor and respond in a timely fashion to Cargo emails regarding freight from both customers and the call centreKeep the warehouse neat, clean and organizedVerify inbound freight manifestsVerify and enter inbound freight and call customers for freight pick upOversee southbound AWBsOrganize internal Company mail for distributionAssist with inventory checksPrevent unauthorized access to secure cargo in storage and in the transport streamPlay an integral role in secure Air Cargo ProgramPerform all other duties as assignedMinimum Education, Experience and CertificationsHigh school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalentMust be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearances and additional authorizationsMust possess a valid driver’s licenseMust be able to qualify for and obtain an Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP)Airline experience considered an assetProficient knowledge of Amelia computer system considered an assetCustomer service experience an assetIndigenous and Cultural Awareness Training considered an assetForklift license or complete applicable training considered an assetWorking ConditionsPhysically able to perform all listed job dutiesTravel by aircraft and other means as required by roleManual dexterity required to use desktop computer and telephoneWork performed both indoors and outdoors; employee must be able to adapt to all outdoor weather conditionsShiftwork may be required (days, evenings and/or night shift)In good general health and the ability to lift and bend, carrying loads of up to 50lbsSafety equipment when & where required e.g. hearing protection, safety vest, protective footwear, and applicable passes Methods and procedures described or implied in the job profile may be altered to accommodate employees.
