Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer Level 2 or Level 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering teams design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core scope of work will be E3 analysis and HEMP testing, analyses reports, development of CDRLs, writing test plans and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Under the direction of your program leadership, responsibilities include performing analyses IAW industry and military standards.
  • Leading a design team and writing reports to support milestone reviews.
  • Accountability and active leadership of team meetings and internal/external demos, and documenting progress on team dashboards is expected.
  • Review and generation of engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.

This requisition may be filled at either a Mechanical Engineer – Level 2 or a Principal Mechanical Engineer – Level 3.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineer - Level 2: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a Masters Degree and 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Mechanical Engineer - Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Masters Degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10 of the time.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Must be able to support an in-office / closed-area work environment full-time.
  • Experience in E3 and HEMP testing and analysis.
  • Knowledge of standards: MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-188-125-1/2, IEC 61000 series
  • Experience developing and presenting technical content for milestone technical reviews with Government customer.
  • Experience using Ansys suite for E3 and HEMP analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical, Systems or Aerospace Engineering
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
  • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure
  • Familiarity with thermal (Ansys Icepak) and structural (NX, Femap, Abaqus) analysis, MIL-STD-810.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute large-scale environmental qualification test campaigns (i.e., test plan and procedure development, supplier contracts, stakeholder coordination, test execution, test report development).
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX
  • Experience reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
  • Experience using engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP.
  • Experience in evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheet meets requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
