Pratt & Whitney, a business unit of RTX Corporation, is a global company that designs, manufactures and services the world’s most advanced aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems for commercial, military and business aircraft.  

As part of our global expansion strategy, Pratt & Whitney (P&W) Engineering is establishing a European Technology & Innovation Center (ETIC) in the Netherlands. The office is located in Houten, near the historic city of Utrecht, 30 minutes from Amsterdam and within the Dutch Randstad, a region that boasts nearly half the Dutch population. 

The Advanced Concepts & Technologies organization within Pratt & Whitney Engineering is seeking a Business Development Manager who will be responsible for developing partnerships and capturing Europe-based funding to support research and technology development in advanced propulsion systems that have promise in meeting aggressive industry goals for sustainable aviation. 

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to be a pioneering leader of this new P&W technology and innovation center. She or he will be the face of the company to our research and technology development partners, customers, and to European and local government funding agencies. She or he will represent and advocate Pratt & Whitney’s interests to all members of the aviation research and technology ecosystem in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Identify relevant propulsion technology and research development opportunities, and align P&W, RTX, and partner resources for the effective capture of the external funding pertaining to those opportunities, 

• Develop strong relationships with Europe-based funding agencies and a thorough understanding of their needs, processes and practices, 

• Develop a strategy to launch and sustain a framework that enables P&W to systematically capture external funding from European funding sources, 

• Support efforts within Engineering related to P&W’s sustainable propulsion strategy, including supporting and coordinating with the broader team including Engineering senior leadership, technology leadership, supporting Fellows, and other technology managers within the Engineering organization, 

• Champion the development of proposals, and align resources to enable cost-effective execution, 

• Participate in and support P&W-wide sustainability efforts and discussions, including interactions with P&W senior leadership, Group Strategy & Development, Commercial & Military Engines, and Communications. 

Basic Qualifications: 

• PhD in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the aerospace industry or a Master of Science with a minimum of 12 years’ experience.  

• Familiarity with the innovation, research and technology ecosystem in Europe 

• Broad gas turbine technical knowledge in research and technology development 

• A strong background and experience in collaborative partnerships 

• Leadership & initiative in unclear environments 

• European citizenship is required. 

• Travel up to 30 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Familiarity with project management and business processes & practices, 

• Familiar with global public-private funding programs, 

• Background or experience related to sustainability, 

• Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills, 

• Ability to work across groups and disciplines to achieve alignment.
