Akima is seeking a Director, Government Contract Compliance to lead our Government Contract Accounting Compliance team at our headquarters in Herndon, VA. This position reports to the Akima, LLC CFO and has responsibility for ensuring compliance of Akima, LLC’s accounting and estimating systems with FAR and DFARS cost principles and applicable cost accounting standards (CAS). This role collaborates with internal and external clients to analyze costs, review costs for allowability, prepare financial reports and as required, provide ad-hoc support, analysis, and trainings. The Director, Government Contract Compliance must exercise judgment and possess strong problem-solving skills in performing his/her duties while complying with established policies and procedures.
This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Herndon, VA.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance of Akima, LLC’s accounting and estimating systems with FAR and DFARS cost principles and applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
- Support the completion of the Annual Incurred Cost Submissions.
- Establish a business relationship with internal and external customers. Provide guidance and support to facilitate accurate and timely financial analysis.
- Compare actual project expenses against contract terms and conditions and the Federal Acquisition Regulations for accuracy (POP, funding, billing rates, labor categories, unallowable expenses). Identify errors and issues (incorrect project set ups, misclassified expenses).
- Support the preparation and submission of provisional billing rates.
- Support Internal Compliance Reviews.
- Provide analysis to support DCAA audits.
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s financial policies and procedure.
- Continually assess ongoing processes to identify areas for potential improvement. As required, participate in initiatives to improve processes (i.e. participate in working groups).
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience with government contractor cost accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with others and work independently.
- Advance Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge of the FAR, DFARS, CAS, and their requirements and application.
- Experience working with DCAA and DCMA auditors and responding to government audit requests.
- Experience in the following areas: Indirect Rates, Pools and Bases, and allocation of costs from Home Office Segments and Intermediate Cost Pools.
- Knowledge of Deltek Costpoint and Cognos preferred.
