Manual Lathe Machinist
The CNC Machinist is responsible for creating quality parts produced on CNC machines such as but not limited to lathes, milling machines, mill/turn machines, precision grinders, shapers, gear cutting machines and equipment according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of a supervisor, responsible for quality parts produced on CNC machines such as but not limited lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, shapers, gear cutting machines
- Reading blueprints or job orders for product specifications: dimensions, tolerances, tooling instructions, fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, sequence of operations, and positioning of tools
- Communicate with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues
- Setup, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerical controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
- Ensuring that parts are created in a timely manner according to the schedule provided and according to the quality standards of the organization
- Cross train to learn other types of CNC equipment to have multiple skills
- Verify dimensions of machined part or tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, or other specialized measuring instruments
- Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor
- Assists with Quality Control
- Knowledge of and experience with at least two (2) CNC operating systems such as Mazatrol, Fanuc, Siemens, etc.
- Performing other duties as required by the Supervisor

- DO NOT engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
- Wear all Personal Protective Equipment as required by the company (safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection)
- Know, understand and implement safe work practices and procedures
- Know, understand and employ established rules and procedures for handling materials, equipment and processes (e.g. use proper lifting techniques, etc.)
- Use equipment and materials only in the manner intended
- Attend required safety training programs and apply knowledge gained from these training sessions.
Job Expectations:
- Be on time every day with tolerance +/- 2 minutes
- Never miss work without having booked PTO and approved by manager/supervisor
- Keep your workstation very clean and tidy and respond to the FOD rules
- Keep in your workstation only what is needed for the day or the week. Everything else must go into a cabinet
- Keep the floor clean around your workstation at all time
- Stamp every operation you complete properly as per protocol
- Keep the preventive maintenance records of your equipment always up to date
- Check and inspect daily your workstation for any hazard
- Wear your PPE at all times at your workstation (minimum requirements, gloves, safety glasses and safety shoes)
- Be punctual and prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time every day.
- Plan vacation, personal time, and absences responsibly in accordance with company policy and operational needs.
Proven Ability / Key Skills
- High school diploma or GED required
- Certificate or machinist knowledge
- At least 2 years’ experience operating CNC machines such as vertical and/or horizontal lathes and milling machines and/or mill/turn machines
- Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with a good understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions
- Good knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines
- Experience with at least two (2) different CNC operating systems.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Skill in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
- Ability to apply machinist craft techniques, processes and principles.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Ability to troubleshoot any problems that might come up while operating the machine.
- Ability to select cutting tools, read blueprints, specifications, manuals and work procedures.
- Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
